Do you want to be a part of an organisation that places patients at the heart of everything they do? Are you excited by challenge and intellectual stimulation, thrive in complexity, and guided by a passion for improvement and social value? If so, we want to hear from you.

NEAS is a values-led and patient-centred organisation, providing vital lifesaving and life-changing services to a population of 2.7 million people living in the north east, ranging from rural, coastal, and urban communities from the Scottish Borders down to North Yorkshire. At the heart of the NHS in the north east, we are the gateway to receiving care for the people living in our region, as the provider of emergency ambulance care, patient transport services, and NHS 111.  For many, we are your first contact with the NHS, making what we do vital to our local communities, and their interaction with our health services. The combination of our services from frontline emergency care to our critical call-centres which start each patient journey with the NHS, offers real complexity and challenge for you as a Non-Executive Director.

Providing Safe, Effective and Responsive Care for All is at the heart of everything we do, from the start to end of our patients' journeys. We will always aim to make a positive difference to those people’s lives. Even in the most challenging situations we strive to perform to the highest clinical and professional standards in a spirit of collaboration and teamwork. There is lots of work to be done, but also lots to be proud of, and here at NEAS we celebrate our achievements and our dedicated workforce.

We are now looking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors to join our dynamic and established Board with a wide range of professional backgrounds and lived experience. Accountable to the public and our membership through our Council of Governors, these roles will provide oversight, governance leadership, and scrutiny as part of a cohesive and values-led Unitary Board. As Non-Executive Directors, you will demonstrate compassion for our staff and the communities we serve, promote the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance, collective decision making, and offer independent challenge and support.

In both appointments we are seeking strategic senior leaders with board-level or equivalent experience gained in complex, changing, and multi-stakeholder environments. In the first appointment we are looking for individuals who bring financial leadership experience; people who have managed significant budgets and will bring that financial rigour, possibly supported by a professional accountancy/financial qualification. To be clear, we are not looking for prior NHS experience in this role. For the second appointment, we are interested in hearing from individuals with proven senior clinical leadership skills, whether as a nurse, medic, or allied health professional including those in academia or research settings. The successful individual will need to bring professional clinical insight and strong experience of corporate and clinical governance. Previous Director level experience would be advantageous but is not essential - rather, the ability to challenge constructively through solid knowledge and understanding is a critical component of both roles.

We are committed to, and actively promote, equality of opportunity. Applications from individuals from all areas of the community who meet the specific criteria are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage/civil partnerships. We want our Board of Directors to reflect the diversity of the population we serve, and we welcome all applications, especially from under-represented groups, including people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
